Sustainability in Defence Supply
The defence sector has historically built and replaced. UK Avionics believes the most powerful sustainability lever in our industry is sustainment — keeping existing platforms operational and effective for longer through expert sourcing, obsolescence management and quality repair-and-reuse practices.
Extending Platform Life
Every legacy LRU, sensor or assembly we return to service is one less unit being manufactured from raw materials. Our obsolescence-management work helps operators avoid premature fleet replacements, deferring the embedded carbon and resource cost of new builds for years — sometimes decades.
Responsible Sourcing
- Preference for genuine OEM, NATO-coded and approved aftermarket components
- Supplier due diligence including environmental and ethical screening
- Conflict-minerals awareness in our component sourcing
- Long-term relationships with vetted, accountable suppliers
Logistics & Packaging
- Optimised shipment consolidation to reduce freight emissions
- Reusable, recyclable and right-sized packaging materials
- Preservation methods that maximise shelf life without excess plastic
- Documented packaging-waste reduction targets
Office & Operations
Our UK office operates on renewable electricity tariffs where available, employs hybrid working to minimise commuting impact, and runs paperless documentation flows wherever export-control regulations permit. We measure and report on our energy use, waste streams and travel impact annually.
Looking Forward
Sustainability targets are integrated into our long-term supply programmes — including KPIs for parts reuse rates, packaging recyclability and supplier environmental performance. We welcome customer requests for sustainability reporting as part of any framework agreement.
